Default BW10 activation code is rejected when attempting to run BWDownloader.exe

I purchased an upgrade from BW 9 to BW 10 when I was first informed that BW was going out of business. I also recently purchased a new laptop computer and would like to install BW 10 on it. There is no BW installation file residing anywhere on my old computer. My previous versions were installed from disks, and my release 10 upgrade was installed via internet. I am a file packrat, so I don't think I ever got an actual installation file for release 10. Moreover, my new computer naturally does not even have a DVD drive. So, I went to bibleworks.com/dd/bwd.html and got the downloader. When I run this downloader, the wizard opens, I enter my BW10 activation code, and I click the submit button. Then, the wizard message field states, "Application code accepted...," but then a popup window immediately appears, saying, "BWDL error 5399: This is not a valid actuation code...." Can anyone please help?

Actually, I rechecked my order for my release 10 upgrade, and I was evidently sent a disk: SKU BW10UPG9M (media distribution). Therefore, my latest upgrade was not executed via "internet," as stated, but by DVD. This is still no help for me now, as my new computer does not have a DVD player. Please help. Thank you.

BW10 was distributed by download or by USB data stick/thumb drive, so you probably should be looking for that rather than a set of DVDs.

My BW3 and BW9 were both delivered by DVD. My BW10 upgrade may very well have been delivered to me by USB data stick/thumb drive, but I can't remember. Whatever medium it is, I do not have access to it now because it is somewhere in a moving and storage warehouse. Even if I had it in my hand, what BibleWorks sent me was only a BW10 upgrade from BW9, so I would still need to first install BW9 via the provided DVD and BW9 activation code and then run the BW10 upgrade (whatever the medium) with the BW10 upgrade activation code. Anyway, I am not looking for DVDs; I do not even have a DVD drive on my new laptop. I want to download the BW10 installer files. I have a legitimate BW10 activation code that is accepted when the download is attempted. However, I think the error 5399 is perhaps being immediately reported because my activation code is for the 9-to-10 upgrade only and so is being reported as invalid for the complete BW10 installer. I mainly upgraded from 9 to 10 for $200 because I was told that I could get support like this only for BW10. Can anyone please help me?

The BW10 "upgrade" USB had the entire BW10 program on it. You do not have to install BW9 first. You might need to type in the code for BW9 during the installation process. But I do not remember that far back.

What I did when I switched computers in 2019 was simply to copy my entire BW10 from the old computer to a USB drive and then copy it to the "Program Files" on the new computer. I was totally up-to-date with patches, and have so many userdatabases and personal settings, that I didn't want to take the time to reconfigure everything on the new computer. I had to create a shortcut to put on my screen, since that was not stored in the BW folder. Everything works fine. Perhaps that would work for you.

Mark E., thank you for your helpful reply. Copying all the folders and program files from my old computer to my new one is what I eventually did, and BW10 now indeed runs on my new laptop. The only issues now are warning popups saying that I do not have read/write permission to the BibleWorks directory, that I do not have "Automation support" (whatever that is), and that an internet log file could not be opened. After appropriately responding to those 3 nuisance popups, BibleWorks seems to run fine as it did on my old Windows 7 computer. Thanks for letting me know about the full program being on the BW10 USB drive. I might try reinstalling it from the USB when I get it back from my storage unit to see if the nuisance popups go away on startup. I regret now packing it in the moving boxes, but at least I now have BW10 running on my new computer. I will nevertheless keep the transferred program folders and files on my USB drive as backup. Best regards, Mark R.

One other nuisance is that BibleWorks no longer remembers verse or word history after shut-down and restart, which probably has something to do with the failed permissions or log file not able to be opened. If anyone can please advise how I might restore this feature, it would be much appreciated. Thanks. Mark R.

You might be right, and I don't have time to look into that.
But, you might want to open the BW Options Window (gear icon) Click on the "Miscellaneous" General option, and see if "Save setup options on exit" and "Save checkpoint on exit" are checked. If not, check them and exit. If they are checked, your suggestion may be correct.
Also see if there is anything listed in your verse history and word history boxes.
You may want to see if the BW1000.ini file is recording your "LastVerse". You would have to open this from "my computer" with a text editor.

Thanks for your last post and for your help. I checked the settings check boxes as you suggested. All good there. A line in the bw1000.ini file says, "LastVerse=27785." Not sure what that means. Anyway, for now I'm glad I can continue to use this amazing software and not have to buy and learn some other program that is not actually what I want. Thanks again for your time. BR, MR
