    Unhappy Need help installing BW10

So here's what's going on, I have the BW10 ISO file installed to windows 10 as properly as I understand it and the load screen runs and loads the databases and bible versions. However, BW does not pop up the browse window at all. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program and ran the trouble-shooting program yet nothing seems to work. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be? Thank you for any help given.

You say that the browse window does not pop up at all. Can you take a full screen shot showing what does appear and post it?

I should clarify. The whole BW10 program does not pop up after the loading sequence with the splash page. I have done exactly as Mike suggested and uninstalled it and reinstalled it, cleaned up any files left behind from other BW programs, troubleshooted, and checked the disk. Nothing SEEMS to be wrong on my end, but something keeps it from opening up properly.

This is a list of procedures that have worked for others when they have had problems like yours. I am copying from another document and not editing it, so some may not apply.

Some steps may appear unnecessary like rebooting or extracting the ISO to a USB drive, but there are times when it made the difference.

Please post back and let us know if you have success, especially if you can let us know what made the difference.

One more thing. If you have not uninstalled BW, go to the BW1000.exe file in the BW folder. Hold down the shift key and click (or double click) on the file. See if any of the options in the trouble shooting pop-up help.

I suggest downloading the ISO from the BW home page. Make a complete backup of your current BW folder. Close BW, disable antivirus programs, turn off any unnecessary services, and then reboot. Close all other programs. Use the ISO to uninstall BW. Reboot the system and use the ISO to make a new installation of BW. Reboot the system again and then update BW to the current version and then reboot the system a final time. Since you are having the crash when you search I would not even try searching or using BW at all except to update it until after the final reboot. Usually this fixes the problem.

I have helped a number of BW users since BW closed with similar problems. Sometimes even the procedure above did not work. What did work then was to uninstall BW using the ISO, then completely delete the BW folder and then search the registry and delete all entries that were part of the BW program. Then reboot the system again and install BW again with AV and unnecessary service off and all other programs closed.

One other thing that seemed to help at least once was to extract the ISO to a folder and run setup.exe from that folder. I would also run BWCheckDisc.exe first from that folder. That would confirm that the ISO was successfully downloaded and that the extraction was also successful.

There's no reason to give up on this. BW10 is completely compatible with Windows 10. The fact that this is a new computer is suspicious. If it came with Windows preinstalled, it may already have anti-virus installed. Turn it off. Also turn off the firewall. If you are using a wireless mouse, check the battery and/or try it with a wired mouse. If you have enough space, try copying all the installation files to a hard drive folder and run setup.exe from there.

If not enough space, get an external drive and extract the files from the ISO to it and run the setup from there.

OK. I was able to finally install BW10. I had tried browsing to the setup.exe in both the USB stick and the downloaded ISO. What did work (and I include this here for future Google searchers) is to change the TEMP location from the User directory to the root C:/ drive. Once I did that, my installation went ahead fine. I can't find the article that suggested the fix, but the changing of temp location in environment variables can be seen here:

Thanks for sharing this. I have run into a similar problem with certainl Adobe applications. I don't even remember which ones, but it did take a long time to find the problem. I have an SSD main drive and I like to move the temp folder to an external drive. You should be able to move the temp folder back to where you had it after installation. Curiously though, BW installs fine on my PC even though I have moved the temp folder. Sometimes what is needed is to clear out the temp folder.

How do I uninstall with the ISO? I can only uninstall through the remove/add program.

Reboot the system. Make sure that no programs are running, especially no security programs. (Disconnect from the internet if you don't feel comfortable not running extra security.) Mount the ISO. Start the installer as you would to make an installation. The installer will detect that BW is already installed and offer three options. Choose Uninstall and run it. Make sure that the BW folder is completely deleted. Reboot and then reinstall. Then reboot without running the program. See if BW opens.

Iíve tried most of the options you gave me and the program still only loads the splash screen version data and then just stops. Nothing after that. I apologize, this is must be frustrating.

Update: I was able to get it running properly thanks to a helpful hint from now john. It took me removing the registry keys (something I tried to do before) after figuring out how to do it and the program ran as it should. I activated it via the internet and now we are in business. Thanks now john!
