Since you mention DOS I will assume that you are running Windows. I just inserted my BW installation flash drive that I ordered just before BW closed. It is not write protected. I copied a file to it and was able to delete it. Do you have some security setup that invokes write protection for USB drives? Could you test the drive in a different computer to see if it works there? Did you discover the write protection by trial and error or did some message inform you of the problem?

I would try inserting a different USB drive into the computer and see if you could copy a file to it and then delete it.

You could try formatting the drive. If you plan to download the entire ISO to it, the drive cannot be formatted Fat of Fat32. The drive from BW was formatted Exfat. Minimum size for the drive is 32GB.

If worse comes to worse, I have used this drive from Amazon to download the ISO to. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MUWZ6J6 It is only $10 with Prime. It is not the fastest USB drive but works OK for storing the ISO download and occasional installation of BW.

You could try opening Disk Management as an administrator. Find the UFD that is write protected. Make sure that you have the correct drive as this procedure erases the entire drive. Use the lower half of the page. Right click on the drive letter of that drive. Click on Delete Partition and delete the partition. It will show that the space on the drive is now Unallocated. Right click on Unallocated and click on New Simple Volume. Complete the Wizard the pops up. Part of that procedure will be to format the drive. Since you have had trouble with the drive you might want to uncheck Perform a quick format. It will take longer but during a full format the entire drive is checked for errors.

If that doesn't fix the problem, it is probably time to discard that drive.

I do have valid Bibleworks10 activation and many other activation codes for modules I've purchased over the years. When I donwloaded the iso from the site I did not have to enter any codes. Is this right? And, when or if I ever need to reinstall Bibleworks10 and modules, do I download from the autorun in this new iso and download from there, just as if I was using my flash drive?

If you are installing on a Windows 10 computer, open File Explorer. Find the ISO on the external hard drive and double click on it. A new drive will be created in addition to the c drive and the external hard drive. Usually File Explorer automatically opens to that drive. If not, find the new drive in File Explorer. Then use the new drive just as if you were using a flash drive. Doube click on setup.exe (or setup ... Application; or setup with the blue and white icon, which also is the largest of the three setup files. File Explorer can be configured differently and so display information differently. In an alphabetical list it is the first setup, and the only one that will start the program. If you click on the wrong one, it may open the file in your default text editor or ask you to download an app to open it. It won't hurt anything. Just switch to a different one until the installation begins).

It is essential that new installations only use the downloaded ISO.

Activation codes are not required for downloading the ISO. They will be asked for during the installation process

I just used 7-Zip to unpack the iso to a folder. I double clicked on setup.exe and the installation program began as expected. In case anyone wants to unpack the iso to a folder that utility appears to work. It can be downloaded at https://www.7-zip.org/a/7z1805-x64.exe. It is a free program. A 32 bit version is also available.

I ran BWCheckDisc.exe to check the integrity of the unpacked files and they all were OK.

The MD5 hashes also matched the set of hashes in post #9 of this thread. That set was created from the iso mounted as a drive.

How did you execute this procedure? I downloaded the 7-zip and the BW10 iso_rev7 file. Not sure where to go from here? Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks.

I posted a query on the Forum about this, but thought perhaps it would be useful to take it directly to you.

In 2017, at age 70 and after 42 years as a pastor, I stepped away from full time ministry. At about the same time, my computer died and had to be replaced, and my wife and I downsized from a nice place in the country to a smaller house in town. In the process, some things got lost/misplaced/boxed-up. The upshot is that I don't have the necessary activation code for use if I download the installation file. Bummer. At that time I decided not to do anything about the lost software, as I was no longer preparing several sermons each week. However, I now find that I have a renewed need to do some in-depth Bible study that just is not possible with the free Olive Tree software with which I've been limping along.

Of course, since I cannot log in somewhere to verify my purchase of (and updates to) Bible Works, and since there is no longer someone who will answer the phone if I call, I have no idea of where to turn if I want to recover this valuable tool.

Can you advise?

The reason I advise delay is that a) there is no rush to get the file, and b) if people clobber the server (the file is 22GB) it will likely come down and then nobody will be happy, and c) the ISO file will likely be updated again. There is nothing significant that is new in this ISO file if you have kept up with the updates. Furthermore, updates to the EXE continue to be posted in the in-program updaters. If you were up to date on July 24, 2018, don’t get the ISO. If you do a BW10 reinstall after July 24, 2018 you should do it from the ISO, not old media.

The links to the updated ISO file are on the webpage. The ISO file requires you have valid BW10 activation codes to run it. So, don't waste your time downloading it if you don't have legitimate activation codes.

I was a BibleWorks user before stepping down from full time ministry in 2017, when I turned 70. Then my computer died, taking my copy of BibleWorks to its grave. I decided just to let it go, as something I no longer needed. However, I am now doing an increasing amount of pulpit supply as well as a fair amount of writing. I greatly miss the linguistic research capabilities of BibleWorks. Unfortunately, I no longer have the necessary activation codes, and so downloading a copy from the website will do me no good.

Is there a solution for someone with my situation? I'd happily pay a reasonable price to be able to have this useful tool available to me again--if not via download then on a CD/DVD or a thumb drive. Free is nice, but I'm realistic about the value of help and product. Mind you, since I'm living on Social Security I can't afford to do a full-price purchase, especially since I did that quite a while back (plus upgrades along the way), but neither do I believe I have the right to demand something for nothing. If there are no available options for BibleWorks, is there another package available with similar capabilities? Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
