Default Installing via Download instead of Physical Media

I'm going to be upgrading from BW9 to BW10 before it goes away. My prior installations have been off BW discs, but I see they are backordered. Is the degree of difficulty extreme to install from download? I'm not in a hurry and can wait to get my discs, but if the download option is no more complex then I'd be open to downloading. 22 GB is quite a download! I guess the primary source of my concern is the order page's notation that installing from download requires "intermediate-level computer experience." I'm pretty sure I have that, but can you give me a sense what that really means? How is the install done and how many CDs or DVDs will I need in order to backed up these files (so that I don't have to have 22 GB of install files on my computer)?

Or maybe I should just wait for discs?

Here are the installation instructions: https://kb.bibleworks.com/index.php?/article/AA-03019. You should be able to judge from that whether you'd be comfortable doing this.

The "hardest" part is mounting the iso (assuming you're on Windows 10). The instructions I found online was to use file explorer and select mount or to Open in the context menu. On one computer that worked but on the other it didn't have those options. I found out later that it may have been I also had a disc management program that can mount ISO files and apparently they took over Windows options.

I decided to use download for two reason, aside from waiting for DVDs. 1) Once I figured out the mounting issues it was faster to install but most important 2) I could copy the ISO to a couple external hard drives for backup. No more hunting around for the discs.

Rather than backing up to multiple discs, it is better to back up to one USB flash memory drive. If you get a 32BG flash drive, you have plenty of room.

You will not receive disks if you order the media. You will receive a 32gb flashdrive containing BibleWorks. I would not recommend backup up BibleWorks to disks, but to a flashdrive.

Default final BW10 iso with all uodates applied

The original BW10 iso file I have is about 17.6 GB (from 2015). Mike Bushell says there will be a final BW10 iso with all updates applied available on the BibleWorks website in July, and will be available indefinitely. I take it that indefinitely means even after Jesus establishes His Kingdom.

    Default BW10 various questions

    1. The download instructions on this thread are for Windows machines. Are there instructions for Mac downloads? I sent an email last week, and now there's a huge backlog slowing responses. I'm a little reluctant to pay $199 if I'm not certain I can make it work.
    2. I am grateful for all that the BW folks have done over the years, but I must note I find it a little perplexing that the same updating price applies no matter how long ago you last updated. Is there any explanation for the thinking behind this policy? (I feel a little like those who labored since the first hour in the parable).
Thanks in advance for any responses, especially to q1!

    Default Mac download instructions

    Hi Fr. Hogg,

Here is a link to the download instructions for the Mac operating system. The link comes from the BibleWorks FAQ pages.

    https://kb.bibleworks.com/article/AA...tructions.html

As to your second question, I really can't answer that, as I was not involved in the price decision. I can say, however, that the owner, Mike Bushell, is a very generous man. Rather than just closing the company without advanced notice, he chose to give BibleWorks users a final opportunity to purchase the software at the lowest price every offered. The single price really simplifies the ordering process for everyone. His goal of keeping the program running in the future is his gracious offer, one that I have never heard from any other company. Even the old price for BW9 upgrades would have been $189, so no one is being cheated here. You will like BW10 better on your Mac than BW9. It just works better. But if you are going to order, you will have to do so before Friday June 15. After that it will be too late!

    Blessings,

It' sad to learn that BibleWorks will no longer be available for purchasing.
I'm a new user and have just placed order for a media, can it be installed for the first time after June 15, must I wait for the media to arrive or can I download it somewhere for the installation.

    Hi Nit,

If you ordered media, then you will have to wait for the media to arrive before you can install it. It won't matter if you have to wait until after June 15 to install it, provided you MAKE SURE that you have your activation code. That is absolutely essential. Your activation code should be in the box with your media, on the Quick Start Guide, unless you have received different instructions from Customer Service.

There will be a download ISO file that Mike Bushell will be posting in July that will contain the full contents. Until that time, the download is only for those who ordered the download version rather than the media version.

    Blessings,
