Thread: Extra-biblical Strong's numbers?

    Default Extra-biblical Strong's numbers?

The "Strong's data" analysis information on tagged versions often includes pointers to other Strong's numbers, which unfortunately are not hot linked.

    1. Is there some easy way to view the entire Strong's lexicon in numerical order, to facilitate following these pointers?

    2. In principle, one could just search the text for the given number...but sometimes the Strong's data includes numbers that don't show up in a search. For example, the word "people" in KJV of Matt 2:6 is tagged with Strong's 2992 λαος. That entry helpfully suggests, "For Synonyms see entry 5832." But a search of the entire Bible for 5832 (.*@5832) returns nothing, and other Strong's lists do not go beyond 5624. I've seen other synonym references higher than that (e.g., the data tab for 3813 παιδιον references a synonym discussion at 5868, another number that doesn't occur in the text. Where are these numbers (and the associated discussion) listed?

The following excerpt from BW10 Help should give you some assistance.

    Looking Up Strong's Numbers
You can turn on the display of Strong's Numbers (for versions that have them) by selecting "Toggle Strong's Numbers" from the Browse Window Options Button menu. When you pass the mouse cursor over the number, the Strong's BDB/Thayer Lexicon entry will be displayed in the Analysis Window. You can also right click on the number and choose "Lookup Thayer/BDB Definition". If you do that the Thayer/BDB Definitions Window will open. This window provides an interface that permits you to browse the Strong's Numbers.

It turns out that 5832 is a placeholder for information, not a Greek word. Using the Thayer/BDB window described above, I found this for G5832:

    Name: StrongsDefs.jpg
Views: 136
Size: 67.8 KB

You can use this same method to navigate through Wigram's TVM codes.

Note that in BW versions Strongs and TVM numbers have a leading zero for Hebrew, while the Thayer/BDB window uses a prefix of H or G to determine which language you want.
