    Default User layouts in BW8?

It took me forever but I finally upgraded to BW8 from 7. I don't see anyway to change the screen layout the but haven't looked that deep yet. 7 was able to change the layout through the View pull down. Is there anyway in 8 to do this. I especially want the analysis window to be under the results window so I can have additional real estate on my laptop to open other windows.

    Yes...

    (1) Look at the option bar at the top of the Bibleworks 8 window and locate View
(the View header should be to the right of file header at the left most side of the top option bar of Bibleworks)

    (2) Left click(mouse) on View (which should cause a pull down menu to open)

    (3) Locate the ninth option counting from the top to bottom / or the seventh option if you count from bottom to top should be: Stack Analysis/Browse Windows

    (4) Now, left click(mouse) on Stack Analysis/Browse Windows and immediately they shall be stacked.

If this was not what you were trying to do please reply to this thread

    Cool BW8 User Layouts 2

    Hi Brian,

That's 1/2 of what I needed. Some of the menus have changed but that fixes the results/browse window problem. Is there any way to put the search window on the right and the results/browse stacked window on the left. Thanks for your help so far!!

Hey, that is great news! I am happy to hear/read that.

Okay, now I have some good/bad news for you:

    (First, the good news)

    When I...
    (1)Left click on Help
(2)Then click on BibleWorks Help Contents (my version is v. 8.0.008u)
(3)In the contents menu on the left most side of that window Scroll down till I see: 50 setup Options then click on it
(4)And, a window on opens up on the right.
(5)Look at the selection headers and Click on Search Window Configuration Options

    (6) Under
Search Window Configuration Options, I see that it references these(and more) options:

Put command Line at top of Search Window (not bottom)

This option causes the Command Line to placed at the top of the Search Window, rather than the bottom. The default is for it to be at the top.

Put Search Window on left (not right)

This option causes the Search Window to be on the left side of the Main Window rather than the right. This is the default.

Put Analysis Window on right (not under)

This option causes the Analysis Window to be on the right of the Browse Window rather than under it. The default setting is for it to be on the right..

Enable context menus in Search Window

This option enables Context Menus in the Search Window. It is set on by default.
    ...

Then it appears to me that what you request is provided for in Bibleworks8 and that is good news, right?

(now, the not so good or bad news)

    Unfortunately when I go to:

    (a)Tools
    (b)Options
    (c)General/Miscellaneous configuration options
    (d)Search Window Configuration Options
    (e) I do not see the following options mention above in the help file:

Put Search Window on left (not right)

Put Analysis Window on right (not under)

    So, that means either:

(a)I was looking in the wrong place
(b)Those options have been removed and the help file was not updated to reflect that

    Default Oh well

I knew from the BW7 Beta test that this was going to come up again. It was decided to allow the windows to be configurable due to the amout of people wanting that feature retained. It would be nice to either update the help file (which doesn't happen a lot or to add the feature back. I am so used to putting my notes on the right side in church things don't look right with it on my left!! I know I can get used to it but configuring windows is so much easier. Thanks for the help Brian. I did see that path but hoped that I may have missed something because nothing was coming up.

I was wondering about the stack option. That's the way I set my because in the vertical layout you have to scroll to the right on some things such as pictures. in the stack option you get the full width and only need to scroll up or down which is what you have to do in the vertical layout anyway. Thanks for the info on the stack option. Life just got a bit easier!

Unhappy The lack of more than a few layouts is disappointing

considering the amount of money I've spent on BW upgrades since BW 4.

    Default notes window/x-reference window

I use the chapter notes window extensively because I like to have my notes automatically associated with specific chapters. While I like lots of things about v8 (upgraded from v6), I'm finding the lack of flexibility in layouts is frustrating. Stacking helps but it is still awkward to take advantage of various features of the so-called 'analysis window' while the chapter notes are visible. In order to have an 'analaysis window' open for the default lexicon, I have to first go into "browse" and open a new "analysis" window. I don't see a way to get to the nifty 'x-ref' window while the chapter notes are still visible. Am I missing something?

    Default Some options

Yes, there are some limitations, and I too wish that the NOTES pane were more visible and obvious, but you do have some options.
In the graphic below, I've piled up all the windows, but if you have a wide screen display, you can move them around so they do not overlap.

    • Use View > New Browse Window: This will give you another text window, and you can have your analysis data show up in the lower half. Use the Sync button at the top to keep your main Browse window and this one together.
    • Use View > New X-Refs Window: This will open up the X-Refs pane in its own box. I tend to use the BW Master list, but you can choose which X-Refs you want open.
    • Use the Open TSK database button: (Note: You will probably have to add this button using the buttonbar configuration.) This will open the TSK in its own window. Usually I access the TSK through the X-Refs pane either on its own or through the BW Master list, but this window offers some extra options of working with TSK data you may find helpful.
    • Right-click on a Greek/Hebrew word and choose "Resource Summary Window" to open its own window.
    • With all these windows/panes open, you now can keep the Notes pane open.Name: bw8windows.png
