Thanks to Bob Venem for the file, check it out the John Wycliffe's Middle English Translation of the Vulgate (1388) at the BibleWorks blog.

Could be a goof on Bob's part. I see there is a James at the Wesley site.

I've fixed the WYC file by adding James. Michael, give me an email and I'll shoot the new file to you so you can add it to the blog. Better yet, just insert the following after Hebrews in the txt file and then save it. Now repost the file.

I'll double check it this afternoon. I was wondering why the compiler info said 65 books, but I counted 66 book abbreviations.

PS Also working on a custom .vmf file since the versification is way off (especially in Exo).

I noticed that this noon. I already worked out the biggest problems in the verse mapping for Exodus, if it really should have the chapter divisions where they are in the wyc.txt file. So you don't have to do this verse mapping over. I can send you what I have, or if you can wait a week I can get the whole verse map file to you (with minor errors to be found as we read through the text).
But before I go any farther, perhaps someone could take a look at the web site again, and see if the Wycliffe chapter divisions in Exodus may have been misplaced. In that case, it would be better to re-compile with corrected versifications in Exodus, rather than to use the current .txt file with the verse mapping I have come up with.

I didn't do anything to correct the versification; my goal was to get a working file into circulation (my impatience at work).

I'd like to know why the versification is so uneven in the text files. Was this just carelessness on the part of the transcribers, or is there something in Wyclif's paper text that indicates these verse breaks? The Wesleyan Center apparently has no information on the files, and I didn't want to modify the text if the versification as it currently appears is what was intended by Wyclif.

In any event, it's still a fascinating piece of history, isn't it?

The verse numbering in the wyc.txt file for BW does NOT follow the versification on the Wesley site, at least not in Exodus. E.g. on the Wesley site Exodus 40 has 36 verses (the standard number). In the wyc.txt file it has 32 verses. So before I do any more verse mapping, someone needs to bring the verse divisions in the .txt file up to snuff. It shouldn't take too long.
