I'm having exactly the same problem Tom described. I'm not planning to upgrade to Windows 10 just yet, though, so I hope there is another fix besides upgrading.
I agree. Tremendous value for the price, plus I use it nearly every day.
I received my unlock codes today...before BW8 arrived. :) (I got an email today saying it shipped yesterday.)
Go to Tools/Options. Under "Option Flags" you'll see "Startup Options." Uncheck "Show splash screen at startup." That should take care of it.

Sorry--I see what you mean. The correct notes come up but not the verse itself. Yes, that would be helpful.
It seems to work OK on mine. I doubleclicked on the note file and it opens in the user notes window. (That was a new feature to me, too, Dan. :) Always learning something new about BW.)
Mine (with "w" update) started up and ran, but seemed a little quirky as it was opening. Seems to run OK now, though.
The splash screen appears when you start BW7, then it fades away. You may have it turned off. Go to Tools, Options, Startup Options, and see if the box is checked for "Show splash screen at startup."
I, too, was slightly disappointed not to find a printed manual with BW7. Reality is, though, I rarely used it with BW5 & BW6, favoring the online help and videos.
