Monday, June 6, 2005 is Yom Yerushalayim, or "Jerusalem Day," the most recent addition to the Jewish calendar (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=wggiyibab.0.mbfhyibab.iic6f9n6.2&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hebrew4christians.com%2FHoliday s%2FCalendar%2Fcalendar.html). This holiday marks the day when Israeli soldiers victoriously recaptured the Old City of Jerusalem from Jordanian control during the 1967 Six Day War.

Remembering Jerusalem...

The return of Israel to her ancient homeland is filled with prophetic significance for those who believe the Scriptures -- but the recovery of Jerusalem in 1967 is an even greater miracle, since Jerusalem is the spiritual capital of the world and the focus of end- times prophecy.

For Christians, Jerusalem is the "City of the great King" (Matt 5:35), often understood allegorically to be heaven on earth. It is the place where our beloved Lord Jesus was crucified, buried, resurrected, and ascended to heaven. It is the birthplace of the Church. And it is also the place where the Lord Jesus will one day return as Mashiach ben David to restore the throne of King David in Israel.

In addition to providing some background about Jerusalem Day, I have also included the Hebrew command to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" for you to practice/recite at this time. Read more.
