View Full Version : Databases as versions

A couple of things I'd be really interested in having as a version (as opposed to a module), so they're more easily searchable & browseable.

Calvin's Institutes &/or Commentaries
Heidelberg Catechism (really any creeds/catechisms/confessions)

Anybody know whether these exist? Thanks.

The Creeds (Apostles', Nicene, Niceo-Constantinopolitan, Athanasian, and Creed of Calcedon) are included in a searchable module. You can find it on the BibleWorks blog in their list of user-produced databases. It contains Greek, English, and Latin for most of the Creeds, and German for a few of them.
Concerning Calvin and the other confessions you mention. One problem with making them a version in BibleWorks is that (aside from Calvin's commentaries) they do not divide nicely into book, chapter, and verse. You would have to come up with your own system for naming and versifying them. That process was begun for the Ante-Nicene Fathers back in BW6, but the consensus seems to be that works such as that function better as Resources in HTML files. Those files can also be searched through the HTML "search", but not in the handy way that BW searches its Bible versions.
Unless you want to put in hundreds of hours to copy the confessions you want into a .txt file (e.g. in WordPad) and versifying them, you might just want to get used to using them as BibleWorks resources (and Calvin's commentaries already ARE available for BW as resource HTML files).
