Hi all
The method of diagramming is new to me. I was tought Greek without such a system in any way. Wonder if it is an American invention ... If, then it is a good one. I often look into the Diagramming module in BW to get a suggestion on how a verse works semantically.

Now, can anyone direct me to ressources explaining diagramming in a bit more detail?

The BW-module kindly enough offers explanations in the left pane, but sometimes I have to do some guessing. Like, adverb, adjective prep-phrases seem to be marked in the same way - which of cause to some degree makes sense.

I'm not big on diagramming, and I'm interested in the new 'diagramming' scheme coming in BW8, but I do have a series of posts indicating some approaches to diagramming that may be helpful HERE (http://bibleandtech.blogspot.com/2008/01/diagramming-greek-sentences.html) then HERE (http://bibleandtech.blogspot.com/2008/02/more-on-sentence-diagramming-and.html) then HERE (http://bibleandtech.blogspot.com/2008/02/more-on-grammar-and-diagramming.html).

A good book is Diagrammatical Analysis by Lee L. Kantenwein (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_1?%5Fencoding=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=books&field-author=Lee%20L.%20Kantenwein)

You can find this on Amazon or CBD

Hi Morton,

If you open the diagrammer module, then look on the button bar, there is a button that says "How to diagram". This opens a window containing full instructions by Randy Leedy (who did the NT diagrams) about how to diagram, the meaning of the symbols, and explanations about the BibleWorks NT diagrams.

I expect that this should answer most of your diagramming questions. There are other types of diagrams than the line diagrams contained in BibleWorks, but this is probably the most common type of diagramming for identifying grammatical relationships between words.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the very useful answers. I will look into the BW-help module which really seems to have it all.

Hi all

Since I first started this thread, I have begun to use the Leedy diagrams a lot.
However, I still believe there is quite a steep learning curve to begin with - especially if you have no training in diagramming - as is not custom outside the US.

One thing that could be of help would be an improvement of the diagramming.chm-file.

There are two articles there - both helpful. But I find especially the "Diagramming Policies" file to lack an important thing: Screen shots with the symbols. When it comes to explaing the various symbols in "III. Policies governing the choice of diagramming symbols", I find my self a hard work trying to match the explanations with the various symbols.

So: Has anyone made an overview over the various symbols? Or worked out anything of help in regards to diagramming?
