View Full Version : Hebrew Links "To Pump You Up!"

Purpose of Thread: I don't know about any of you, but I live in an area where there's not a lot of positive reinforcement (almost less than none) to work with the biblical languages. There's plenty of the opposite. But, we persevere as unto the Lord and "D@#* the negative verbal torpedoes! Full speed ahead."

That does not mean that encouragement isn't welcomed from time to time - as a refreshing drink of "Pump you up!" (For those of you who don't think SNL is a sin, you'll get the reference.)

I would like to start a thread with links (in addition to MGVH's & others) that are designed to do just that.

I'll launch the Hebrew portion of the good ship BW7: Here's two from Robert Alter.

The Psalms with Robert Alter and Marilynne Robinson <<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b57U-3Nd_MM>> *Just a teaser to get you enthused.

The Bible Through Literary Eyes <<://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSQqde4y-Vc&NR=1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSQqde4y-Vc&NR)>> *This one is much longer, but a wonderful expounding on the convention of repetition in Hebrew literature. Who cares? Well ... if the Hebrew Scriptures are noted for extreme brevity and economy, why go and contradict that with repeating yourself, repeating yourself, repeating yourself, ... Huh?

The second one is an hour 'n' a half. I've watched the first third and think it's wonderful. For those of you who'd rather listen to this, "We have ways of making youtube talk!"
