Update: Charles OT Pseudepigrapha (7.018w)
Date: 04/18/07 at 13:21:58

This patch contains the latest files for the OT Pseudepigrapha by R.H.Charles. There is a new "version" (OTP) and an HTML Help Module (look under Resources | Miscellaneous). You will also need to get the latest BibleWorks executable (18w.9) and the latest book name alias files. This is a free download for BibleWorks 7.0 users, newly scanned and proofed just for our loyal users - just another way of saying thank you!

This is a NOT a preview version. No access code is needed to download this patch.

If you have problems with this update please post a reply to this message on the BibleWorks Forum in the Program and Database Updates section. If you post a response elsewhere we may not see it. Please do not use this section to post messages about anything but this update.

Right now it appears that verse pop-ups are activated for normal Bible books but Pseuedpig lit is blue and underlined like other verse links, but nothing pops up when I hover over them. Is that intentional? I see that some of them provide links in the HTML so clicking on them brings up the relevant portion of Charles' text in the HTML file, but some of them do not appear to work.

e.g. towards the beginning of 2 Baruch footnote four

My people shall be chastened. Cf. xiii. 10 (http://www.bibleworks.com/forums/2ba_book.htm#sr2BA_13:10), &c. Pss. Sol. vii. 3 (javascript:BwRef('Pss 7:3')), &c.

where the Pss. Sol. reference does not pop up anything nor does it link to anywhere if I click on it.

Yeah that looks like that fixed the Psalm of Solomon links. Just after that there is a 4 Ezra link. It looks like it wants to be a popup but can't

those that are like you. This phrase recurs in three of the sections of this book. Cf. 4 Ezra iv. 36 (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:BwRef%28%274Es%204:36%27%29), &c.

hovering over that pops up a very small framed rectangle with nothing inside it. Clicking on the link says 4es 4:36 cannot be found in the current search version, which shouldnt be the case since I have OTP running as the search version.

Thank you so much for this awesome update! However, it seems that the first two chapters of the Sibylline Oracles are missing.

Of course, this is fantastic! Almost fainted.

-Will vol 1 also be offered in the future?
-I have also notice that some of the blue crossref links do not pop up. Some that do not popup will open when dubble clicking on them, but some will do neither.

Thank again very much!

I'm glad you like the inclusion of Charles. I, too, have wanted it to be included for years!

I am currently collecting any database errors for the Charles OTP. I will be repairing any errors, then recompiling the text. (The new abbreviation for the book will be APOT--thanks Jim Darlack, can't believe I missed that one!)

Please send errors to dberrors@bibleworks.com, and I will make the corrections.

As to the Sybilline Oracles, there are 3 fragments in Charles, with the main text starting at chapter 3. That is why there are no chapters 1 or 2 in BW. (I have not included the fragments in the search version, but they are in the Resource menu version.)

Hi again
But how about vol 1? Or have I missed something. I only can see vol 2? I don't mean to be ungrateful, just wonderingen.

Hi Stephan,

We only have vol. 2 at this time. I don't know if we will include vol. 1 or not. We already have the Apocrypha text included in BW in various translations (LXE, NRS, RSV, etc.), so there isn't as much urgency to include vol. 1. The introductions would be nice to have, though. It is very, very expensive to scan and proof these books, especially for ones that we give away, so we must be careful what books we produce.

Hope this helps.

I understand the work and expenses involved.

However, Charles set a school of thought when he published the volumes we are talking about. The notes and comments in connection to the texts are very valuable, especially in contrast to how these texts are looked upon by other schools of thought today in relation to the Old Testament.

I wish my dissertation was finished, so I could help out with the project.

For some reason, I am unable to download the updates. When I check for updates they are accessed but I get an error message whenever I attempt to download them into my bibleworks program.
