Keyboard keys do not correspond properly

As of June 15, 2018 BibleWorks ceased operation as a provider of Bible software tools. The old BibleWorks web site, activation server and forum are gone. This new forum is intended to provide a way for the thousands of people still using BibleWorks to communicate with one another. Click on "General BibleWorks Discussion" above to view messages.Or you can jump directly to two topics of general interest to everyone:

How to Activate a New Installation of BibleWorks 8,9 or 10.

To post to this forum you must register your account. After you register and accept the TERMS OF USE, you will be sent an e-mail. You must respond to this e-mail and be activated by an administrator before you can post. This is necessary to limit the use of this forum for spam.

We get a LOT of forum registrations that we cannot activate because we got no response to the confirmation e-mail that was sent. A few are returned as undeliverable and we assume that they are spammers. We have no way of knowing if the other confirmation e-mails were even received. If you registered and never received the confirmation e-mail, you can send a message to forum@biblework.com. But check your spam folder first. Keyboard keys do not correspond properly

Post by LeoMar »

Recently I upgraded to a different computer. I was sent the executable file and can open the program. However, almost as soon as I begin to use the program and then do some work in MS Word, several of my keys revert to something different. I have reviewed all my settings in Windows 11 and everything is correct. Is there something I should be doing within the BW8 program to not allow this change? Any help is appreciated!

Do the problems occur even when BibleWorks is not running?

No. When I close BW and then reboot the computer the keystrokes work as they should. Then when I open BW up again and do a few searches and then go to MS Word, the key strokes are again "off". I have even switched keyboards to see if it is perhaps within that element; but it occurs regardless of either keyboard. I've never had this as long as I've owned BW8. The only thing that has changed is I recently upgraded the computer and then also upgraded to Windows 11.

If it were possible to register the program as we used to do when the program first opens up after install I wonder if the problem would not occur.

Registration would have nothing to do it.
What do you mean by "off". Examples please.
You can try deleting the bw1000.ini file to see if that helps. But back it up first if you have a lot of customizations.

Here´s some examples±
1. A dash becomes a backslash
2. the equal sign becomes a circle as in temperature degree symbol
3. forward slash becomes a dash
4. a plus sign becomes a squiggly line
5. underscore becomes a question mark
6. an asterisk becomes a beginning parenthesis

No letters in the alphabet appear to be affected.

I hope these help.

Try starting BW first and then Wors. Then reverse that. Does it matter which is started first?
Do you have any keyboard mapping software installed?
Go into Tools|Options|Startup and uncheck "mouse Hooks. Clixk OK. Then reatart BW.
Delete the BW1000.ini file and see if that makes a difference.

It does not matter which program starts first. Whenever BW is opened, the keyboard immediately switches.

To my knowledge I have no keyboard mapping software installed.

I have unclicked the `mouse Hooks`and it makes no difference when I start up BW.

My computer did a search for BW1000.ini and no such file is identified. You are welcome to point me in the direction I should go.

I should have said bw800.ini.

I have checked all the keys that I listed as an example of what happens when previously opening the BW8 program. The keyboard is working as it is supposed to!

Since Wednesday is my study day for the Bible studies for the following day, I will plan to let you know at the end of the day whether the keyboard continues to "behave".

Thank you for taking the time to suggest deleting the bw800.ini file

Blessings,

If you kept both files you can compare them and find out what setting was causing the problem.
