Sources for Aramaic fonts and texts with vowel points

As of June 15, 2018 BibleWorks ceased operation as a provider of Bible software tools. The old BibleWorks web site, activation server and forum are gone. This new forum is intended to provide a way for the thousands of people still using BibleWorks to communicate with one another. Click on "General BibleWorks Discussion" above to view messages.Or you can jump directly to two topics of general interest to everyone:

To post to this forum you must register your account. After you register and accept the TERMS OF USE, you will be sent an e-mail. You must respond to this e-mail and be activated by an administrator before you can post. This is necessary to limit the use of this forum for spam.

We get a LOT of forum registrations that we cannot activate because we got no response to the confirmation e-mail that was sent. A few are returned as undeliverable and we assume that they are spammers. We have no way of knowing if the other confirmation e-mails were even received. If you registered and never received the confirmation e-mail, you can send a message to forum@biblework.com. But check your spam folder first. Of course you are free to browse messages without registering. You just can't post to the forum or respond to messages.

Sources for Aramaic fonts and texts with vowel points

Post by dlydick »

I have several questions about BW fonts and texts with vowel points.

1. Does anyone know a good source for Aramaic fonts for Windows systems? Especially those with vowel points?

2. BW's TAR version, "TAR/TAM Targumim (Aramaic Old Testament)", carries Masoretic Hebrew vowel points. Do any BW Aramaic or Syriac texts carry any flavor of Aramaic vowel points?

3. Do any of them carry Masoretic Hebrew vowel points besides TAR?

4. Does anyone know of any Hebrew fonts for DavkaWriter that carry any flavor of Aramaic vowel points?

Thanks for your help,

Daniel

Both (Biblical!) Aramaic and Masoretic Hebrew use the same niqqud vowel points (which humorously enough, they will carry over into Paleo Hebrew if you don't remove them). My suggestion if you need certain stylised niqqud or Aramaic glyphs, simply to take an existing Hebrew font and modify the glyphs as necessary (this is how I created my own custom Proto-Sinaitic font), or see if there are any existing fonts on the internet which I bet there are. I simply made my own so I was not restricted by copyright.

As for BibleWorks itself, internally its font manipulation is not Unicode IIRC as it was designed before computers could handle elaborate fonts properly (it was only until later versions of BibleWorks that copying out text converted it to Unicode).
