Yom HaShoah - Never Again.
A time to reflect...
The European Holocaust is not something that happened long ago in a remote corner of the earth. No. It was cultured Europeans, and many so-called "Christians," who were caught up in the madness of fascism and anti-Semitism.
Shoah is the Hebrew word for "destruction" and is another name used to refer to the European Holocaust, when six million Jews - including one and a half million children - were systematically murdered by the Nazis during World War II. Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, is this Friday, March 6th.
How do we make sense of the Holocaust? Where was the LORD? Why did He allow His original covenant people, the descendants of Abraham, go through this horror and pain?
To dismiss these questions is to miss your opportunity to empathize with the victims of atrocity - of the Jews first, but also of the other peoples of the earth.
The Jewish Holocaust is prophetic of our age, and we see terrifying analogues of a fascist worldview in our postmodern world today - even in the United States of America.
On Friday, May 6th, please take a moment to consider the terrible cost of the Holocaust, and consider how that might impel you to become more conscious of the liberties you now enjoy.
