What is the reason to use Jo for "Joel" in the "books.bna" file?

I was wondering why I did get no results for certain words using "Jo" as reference until I realized what Jo stands for.

I suggest to change that in the next BW edition to Jo = John.

You do know you can change the abbreviation yourself in the books.bna file, don't you?

I'm with Dale, the current defaults are sufficient in both cases. Jn is a better default for John, but customization means we can all get what we want.

I seem to remember "Jno" as an abbreviation used for John.

It appears that the abbreviation Jo for John seems natural esp. for German audiences ("Johannes"), whereas Jn for John flows well for native English-speaking folk. I agree that a new BW user not familiar with biblical nomenclature would assume that Jo will produce John, not Joel. Changing Jn to Jo by default, however, would be changing the USA from inches to centimeters. Not gonna happen!

I never said to change Jn for Jo. What I suggested was to remove Jo from Joel and add Jo to John. Then you have both Jo and Jn for John.

In earlier BW versions there was no Jo. That was ok, I added it to John and everything was fine. When I installed BW7 I forgot to do that and simply entered "l Jo" in the command line, as usual to set the limits to John. Oops, no results? I investigated and found that Jo now is Joel! This is a rather unusual decision, I think.
