Thread: New e-Sword Links Summary

    Default New e-Sword Links Summary

    I have been trying to obtain more information on how to customize e-Sword External Links using the bits and pieces listed on this Forum.

    I wrote Rick Meyers several times to request a complete list of allowed e-Sword parameters and a discription of what each flag does.

    He will not privide me that information and only says the information I have is all there is, without a description of what each flag does or how those flags may be used.

    The following is my own summary of working EL e-Sword parameters and my best guess of what each flag means or does. If anyone can clarify or correct me on those flags, please feel free to correct me.

    As for e-Sword Lookups, the following is a summary of all the links that I have gotten to work correctly.
    e-Sword -h -d
    e-Sword -h -g
    e-Sword -h -p
    e-Sword -h -r
    e-Sword -h -s
    e-Sword -h -m
    e-Sword -V <book> <chapter>:<verse>

    From what I have been able to determine the parameters do the following:
    -h Hide main window
    -v Passing Bible Verse parameter?
    -d Daily Devotions only
    -r Bible Reading Plan only
    -g Graphics Viewer only
    -p Prayer Requests only
    -m Scripture Memory Verse Component only
    -s STEP Reader only

    Here are the full e-Sword ELM links that I am currently using (copied from C:\Program Files\BibleWorks 8\init\ShellExec.txt where the ELs are stored):

    //
    // External Link #24
    //
    [e-Sword Bible Verse]
    Operation = Open
    Directory = NULL
    File = "C:\Program Files\e-Sword\e-Sword.exe"
    Parameters = -v <book> <chapter>:<verse>
    MenuLocation = Browse Window English
    TextType = Bible Verse
    MapToVersion = KJV
    Lookup = Verse Reference
    MenuText = e-Sword Bible Verse
    Enabled = 1

    //
    // External Link #25
    //
    [e-Sword Graphics Window]
    Operation = Open
    Directory = NULL
    File = "C:\Program Files\e-Sword\e-Sword.exe"
    Parameters = -h -g
    MenuLocation = External Resources
    TextType = NULL
    MapToVersion = NULL
    Lookup = NULL
    MenuText = e-Sword Graphics Window
    Enabled = 1

    //
    // External Link #26
    //
    [e-Sword STEP Reader Window]
    Operation = Open
    Directory = NULL
    File = "C:\Program Files\e-Sword\e-Sword.exe"
    Parameters = -h -s
    MenuLocation = External Resources
    TextType = NULL
    MapToVersion = NULL
    Lookup = NULL
    MenuText = e-Sword STEP Reader Window
    Enabled = 1

    All of that only works when e-Sword is initially unopened, correct?
    καὶ ὑπὲρ πάντων ἀπέθανεν ἵνα οἱ ζῶντες μηκέτι ἑαυτοῖς ζῶσιν, ἀλλὰ τῷ ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν ἀποθανόντι καὶ ἐγερθέντι.

    You are correct. If e-Sword is already opened, just close it before executing another External Link to e-Sword.
