I assume these files can be added to my BW7.0 library. Is that a good assumption? Also-where are the specific instructions for adding these...and what cautions do I need to bear in mind if I do this?

Yes, all the files at the top of this thread can be added to BW7.Originally Posted by dbielby
Instructions are in the Help section 38 "Compiling Version Databases." But you don't need to know all that information. In short:
1. unzip the version you want into your BW7 "userdb" folder. There will always be a .ddf and .txt file for this version. There may also be a readme file. You may want to rename the readme file so that it isn't overwritten every time you unzip a new version.
2. if there is a readme file for your version, open it. Some of them explain how to compile the version.
3. If there are .bww and .vmf files for this version, move them to your "databases" folder.
4. Open BibleWorks and click on "Tools" then choose "Version Database Compiler."
5. Click on "Open" next to the Database Description line #1.
6. Choose the 3-letter version abbrviation (from the list in the window) for the version you want to compile.
7. Check the path for the "raw database file" #2. If the version was originally made for BW6 this line might have "BibleWorks 6" as part of the path name. Be sure that how it says "BibleWorks 7."
8. Once you're sure that the path is correct to find the text file for this version, make sure that "Install after Compiling" is checked (to the left of the "Compile" button). Now click "Compile", and in seconds you'll have a new version, and it should be displayed in your browse window.

First, nothing can replace reading everything in the Help files in BibleWorks about the Version Database Compiler. To read the help files first go to "Help" on the top toolbar in BW7, then select "Online Help Topics." Once the Help files are displayed, click "38 Compiling Version Databases" and read everything. This will probably be "too much information" for now, but don't worry, it will help you get familiar with all of the jargon.Originally Posted by dbielby
In many of the downloads on the first post to this topic, there is a "Read Me" file with instructions.
Here are some general instructions to install:
- Read your BibleWorks manual or help files on the Version Database Compiler thoroughly before proceeding. (I've repeated this part of the instructions for a reason...It's so important to do.)
- Unzip the downloaded files.
- Copy the unzipped *.txt and *.ddf files to your C:\Program Files\BibleWorks 7\userdb folder. An alternate method is to make a subfolder in your userdb folder labeled with the three-letter database abbreviation, and put your *.txt and *.ddf files in a different subfolder for each database. This cuts down the clutter, but you will have to navigate to the subfolder when compiling your databases, and you may have to change the file path when compiling. (See below.)
- Copy the unzipped *.bww and *.vmf files (if provided) to your C:\Program Files\BibleWorks 7\databases folder.
- Copy the unzipped *.bna file to your C:\Program Files\BibleWorks 6\init folder.
- Open the *.ddf file with the Version Database Compiler.
- Go to the top toolbar in BibleWorks, open "Tools."
- From the drop-down menu, select "Version Database Compiler."
- Click the "Open" button under box labeled "1. Database Description File (DDF)."
- Either double-click the *.ddf file, or type the file name (e.g. anf.ddf) in the appropriate field and press enter. You may also need to navigate to the appropriate subfolder (if you put the files in their own subfolder in the userdb folder). Also make sure that the path for the Database Raw Text File is correct. If it is not, you may need to change it. [Now, in the Version Database Compiler, you will see all of the settings for the appropriate version.]
- Be sure that there is a check in the box "Install after compiling."
- Hit the "Compile" button. The database is now installed.
- In an typical BibleWorks database, the correct "full" names of each individual book of the Bible or work of Josephus will be displayed in the Browse List Box above the Result Window. These "full" names will not show up for a user-made database (outside of the Bible, Apostolic Fathers, Josephus & Philo) unless you add them to your bookname file (*.bna). To install booknames, either copy relevant data from the appropriate *.bna (often unzipped with the rest of the database files) to the bna file of your preference (using a text editor), and install. Be sure to read about booknames in the Help Files: Help | 30 Setup Options | Book Names.

I am new to BW, and I just found the BW add-ins master list. How do you link to these or add them in? Please keep in mind I am not a programmer.

Hi Ashley,
It's really easy to take advantage of these External Links. You could go through the ELM (Resources | Edit External Links), but this information is stored in c:\program files\Bibleworks 7\init\ShellExec.txt.
First make a backup of this file. Next open it in Notepad. Copy from this thread the external link you want to use and paste it into ShellExec.txt. Save and close the file. You should now see a new entry in Resources | External Resources.
You can find more info on how the ELM works by checking out the help file (Chapter 12 Browse Window or click on Index in the help file and type "External").
Hope this helps!

Hi there Ashley. To use these addins, you need to download them from the links provided and then follow the instructions provided at this post. Please, please, please read your help files about "compiling your own databases" as this will help you understand the jargon.Originally Posted by agraves
PS: I'm not a programmer either, so it is certainly possible to use these add-ons without being one! It just takes a little patience and a willingness to "Try, try, again."

I haven't seen it, but it's such a long list and I may have missed it, but....Is The Didache available as an add-on (in both Greek and English) for BibleWorks? If it's not currently available, I (for one) would love to see it made available (again, a task for one of those programmers "with time on their hands"). - Just thought I'd ask.![]()

Thank you, Michael! I'm not surprised at all that it's in there. I just hadn't read enough in the Apostolic Fathers to have found it yet. - Thanks again!![]()

Have tried unzipping the Targum-Pseudo Jon file several times, and windows contantly reports that the file is corrupted. Is that true?
