After 90 years of production, Ford Australia has announced that it will be shutting down its Australian factory in 2016, putting 1,200 workers out of a job.

Rising Costs. The high Aussie dollar. Cheap imports - all brought a $600,000,000 loss over the past five years.

I'll either have to buy a new one before 2016, or hope that my current Ford keeps on going for many more years to come.

http://www.news.com.au/business/comp...-1226648895882

So if you like the Australian made Ford Falcon at the V8 Super Car race in Austin the other week - it will soon be gone.

p.s. My son drives a Falcon, I drive a Falcon - but not a V8.

Hi friends,

Here's an interesting question.

I'm using BW8.

The Word List Manager is great for finding the frequency of each noun in a given corpus. But I would like to take things a step further. How could I produce some sort of "Noun-pattern List Manager," something that would tell me how often each mishqal is used in a given range of verses? So the output for Kings should be something like

ספר-pattern 1693 times
שם-pattern 547 times

and so on.

I have grouped the nominal lexemes in the HB into several hundred patterns. How can I set things up so that BW will give me a list of the frequencies with which each pattern occurs in whatever book I choose?

I guess the larger question is how to find the frequencies of groups of lexemes rather than individual lexemes. For instance, if I divided all of the lexemes in the HB into building terms, household terms, political terms, etc., how could I generate a list of how often each type of term occurs in a given section of the HB?

Thanks for the input!

It is nearly tax time here in Australia (June 30), and so after debating with myself for a long time, I finally upgraded to BW9.

First of all, I would like to say a big "thanks" to the BW staff. I ordered BW9 on May 15, and it was sent out the same day. I was able to "track" the order and it went to a couple of places in Virginia - Kentucky - Anchorage, Alaska, Hong Kong, Singapore, and arrived here in Perth on May 19. Being a Sunday, I received it yesterday, May 20. That isn't bad. Half way around the world in 5 days - and that is with one day lost due to the International Date Line. Again, many thanks BW Staff! ;)

What I like so far:

Naturally, I haven't even had BW9 for 24 hours, but some aspects I like so far are:

The fourth column. To be able to have Search, Browse, Analysis - and now verse, MSS, Use, etc at the same time. Not quite "like heaven", but it is pretty good.

"Use" tab. This is simply great. To be able to see all of the use of a particular word - without doing another search is such a time saver. I particularly like the way that you can view "use" in only the book - or in the entire version. This allows me to see how Paul uses a word in 2 Corinthians (my current preaching), without having to scroll through everything else as well. Of course, if there could one day be an option to show how Paul (or John, Peter, Luke, etc) uses a word in all of his letters, that would be extremely helpful.

The "interlinear view" on BGM. I like several things about this:

It is a space saver. There were times when the previous view took up a great deal of room, and it was sometimes difficult to find the exact word I was searching for.

Being able to see the word in the text, lexical form, parsing code in the interlinear format, is visually more appealing and comprehensible (for me, anyway). (Any chance of the WTM? - Greedy, aren't I)

The CNTTS Apparatus. I could go on for ever, but I won't. It is like trying to explain how great a color TV set is to a person who has only ever had black & white.

These are just a few things, and I have barely scratched the surface of the features of BW9.

I just wish I had taken the plunge earlier.

Hi friends,

I'm new to BibleWorks.

I'm trying to customize my searches so that they are done to only certain selections that I have chosen within a book. In particular, I want to search only the words in the WTM book of Kings that I consider to be "direct discourse." As far as I can tell, the "Set Search Limits" option is incapable of doing this, because it can limit your search only by verse ranges; it can't limit the search to, say, the first three words in one verse and the last three in another.

An example might help. The first verse in Kings contains no direct discourse. The first three words in 1 Ki 1:2 are also not direct discourse (ויאמרו לו עבדיו). But then the last 16 words in that verse are direct discourse. I want to run a search that deals with only the words that are direct discourse within each verse, like those last 16 words in 1 Ki 1:2. Simply limiting the search to 1 Ki 1:2 would not be specific enough for my purposes, because I need to exclude the first three words in the verse.

I'm prepared to go through and manually highlight all direct discourse in the book of Kings, if there is a way to limit my searches to the text that I will highlight. But I need to know if there is a way.

All input is welcome.

Hi, this question is probably easy, but I'm a bit lost.

As I'm going to study a lot the OT for my doctoral thesis, I will have to go through text criticism, with the critical apparatus of the BHS. Now, in Bibleworks with databases WTT and WTM, I only get the text of the BHS ; how could I create new databases that would not present the official BHS text, but my modified text after text criticism ?

I know that it's possible to "export" a database, then to modify it, then to compile again... But there are so many options I'm a bit lost. Which format should I choose for export ? (BBW, CCAT, RTF...?) Should it be a text-only file or is RTF possible ? Is it possible to modify the text in "hebrew font" mode, or should I learn the encoding and modify the text like in Ascii mode (which looks awfully like "reading the Matrix" !)

PS : I'm using Bibleworks 8

Thanks for your help and advices !
Blackboard and The City are way to expensive, (The City is reasonably priced, but even so, I am looking more to experiment with it, and see what might interest my congregation, so $2,000+ a year is too much.) Moodle seems like an option, but I do not know if I have enough coding skill to set it up. Are there any others out there that I am missing?

However, there seems to be a problem with entering "*@v*", as I keep getting a popup box saying "No Matches Found." I can change the range to another passage (such as the "rut 1" used in the example, and I can change the "Left," "Right," and "Codes" to something other than zero, but I keep getting the same result--no result. What am I doing wrong?

Is it possible to export a list of words found in a search?

Hi all,
Is it possible to export a list with the words found in a search result - and only the highlighted words, not the entire verses?
My case: I want to produce a list with all the imperatives in Mark and have that exported as a regular list for a word-document.
Thanks,
Morten
