Greetings.

I am using BWW 9.0.

a) At Tools / Importing / Exporting Information / Export Database / Version set at BLM ...

b) With BW Options / General / Fonts / Unicode Fonts (Export Only / Unicode Greek / Gentium ...

c) If I export, say, Range Gen 1-35, the output is in Bwgrkl font, not the expected unicode font (Gentium).

d) Any solution to my simple problem?

Go to Tools | Geberal | Fonts and check "Export Greek Resources"

Already did this, and still I do not get exports in unicode Gentium. Instead output is Bwgrkl.

I've never used that Import/Exporting Information option, but I also get bwgrkl.
I'm guessing it's that way, because the main reason to do that would be to create one's own edited versions, and BW needs bwgrkl to import a Greek database.

If I want a big chunk of text, I open my word processor (using MSWord), hit CTRL-SHIFT-B which brings up the copy popup. Enter the range. Make sure the version you want is being copied (or hit Favorites and use the dialogue to get what you want), then hit copy.

Thanks, but the function you mentioned (above) is not what I need (I have used it many times before). This could be a bug, and I hope BWW fixes it as soon as possible, as I am sure they will.

Does it work if you use SBL Greek instead of Gentium?

No, the exported results are the same (not the desired unicode: Gentium, SBL Greek, etc.)

If you are desperate you can delete the files bw900.ini (bw root dir) and copyops.dat (in the init folder) and see if that fixes it. Backup the files first so you can restore your settings if it doesn't help. Also send the backed up files to tech support and describe the problem to them. There are so many settings that interact with each other that it's hard to diagnose without those files.

I can reproduce the exact same scenario on version 9.0.12.653. I have not tried deleting any files in the root directory or init folder (and would prefer not to have to meddle with that stuff, if possible).

Can anyone get BW9 to export Unicode text this menu item? Tools > Importing/Exporting Information > Export Database

Any text I export that way is always in the BW non-Unicode font.

Hello ETC,

It looks like your setup is good. It should be ok for exporting Greek as unicode. My setup is identical (and I think it's the default one for BW9) and I've never had it export in anything other than unicode. It's among the BW features I use on practically a daily basis.

The only thing I can think of is this: I see that you are still using Windows XP. I don't know how old your version is, so the problem might be elsewhere, but unicode came out after XP was first marketed, so if your version goes back before, say 2005 or so, it probably doesn't support it. Another possibility is that, your Windows XP is more recent but isn't fully (or 100% correctly) supporting unicode.

I can't think of anything else, because with your output setups, you shouldn't be having a problem.

Hi, Donald,

I'm on XP with Service Pack 3.

It just doesn't work.

You should probably get in touch directly with BW. Again, I've never encountered this problem in Windows 7 or in my Mac version (and I use unicode constantly when exporting). I can't think of anything other than a problem inherent with XP, which is starting to get quite outdated. There may be some other issue, but I can't see what it might be. It's not the settings.

Blessings,

Don

Thank you very much, Don. I am actually using XP on a Mac running Virtual Box with Win XP on it, so I could try to install it on the Mac side. I'm totally new to BW, so I'm just getting my feet wet, so to speak, and figuring out how to use it.

ETC recently contacted BibleWorks Support (http://www.bibleworks.com/support.html)to inquire about the issue indicated in this thread with the use of the Export Database tool.

Please click here (http://kb.bibleworksllc.com/kmp/index.php?/article/AA-02988/100/Can-I-Use-the-Export-Database-Window-to-Export-Greek-or-Hebrew-Text-in-Unicode.html)to view the article. It clarifies that the Popup Copy Window is the best tool to use in BibleWorks to export large ranges of verses in a Greek or Hebrew Unicode font.

Just wanted to say that as a BW newbie I'm impressed with the support I've received from BW (Mark Cannon). Way to go! Speaks well of the company behind the product. Or perhaps it speaks well of the people who work for the company. Either way: win - win.
