View Full Version : How do you know when someone is really your friend?

Sometimes, it's difficult for me to tell when someone is really my friend. There are so many people who are friendly and it's easy to mistake civility for friendship. What are the signs that someone is just being nice to you (or possibly manipulative) versus really caring for you as a friend would?
I would appreciate some guidance on this issue, please.

Here are a few thoughts:
1) When you are talking to them, do they keep looking at you, or do their eyes dart around the room looking for someone else to talk to.
2) Do they talk for a while, but then make the excuse, "I just have to catch up with so-and-so".
3) Do they remember what you have told them in the past, or do they forget the things that you said.
4) Are they desire to meet you outside of your "official meeting place" (i.e. church, work, school) or will they only meet or talk with you in this place only.
Now these aren't "hard and fast", and I am guilty of breaking them all, and for what I consider to be valid reasons. But they are simply some thoughts.
