I am having a problem with this option. I select to search all same language versions and to prune those with no hits. However, if I do a search on say, "the patience of God" the results window will show versions where there is no hit. Shouldn't they not be there?

Do these other versions actually have hits, but in different verses from the one in your current results window? If so, your setting is working fine. If a version has even one instance of your search phrase, it will display in all instances.

Try this: Use NIV as search version, set the option to prune versions that do not contain the his and enter the search phrase 'love of God and see what happens.

All English versions contain the phrase "love of God" (see 2Co 13:13/14 and Rom 8:39). So all versions will display in any verse in which any one of the versions contains the phrase "love of God." So none of the version will be pruned in this case.

When I do your original search "'patience of God" The only English display versions I see are GNV, NAS, NAU, DRA, and NLT (my Greek versions remain in the results window). This is because this phrase occurs in most of these versions in 1Pe 3:20. The other two biblical occurrences of this phrase are in the two versions that do not have it in 1Pe 3:20. So the prune feature is working exactly as it should on my computer.

I hope this helps.

Hi, Howard,

I just ran your trial search with search and prune on. I get the following verse list: Psa. 52:1, 8; Luke 11:42; John 5:42; Rom. 5:5; 8:35, 39; 1 Cor. 15:34; 2 Cor. 13:12, 14; 2 Thess. 3:5; 2 Tim. 3:4; Titus 3:4; 1 John 2:5; 3:16-17; 4:9; 5:3; Jude 1:1, 21

For Psalm 52:1, the ESV is the only version that has the phrase in it, yet lots of the other versions are displayed. Not a bug.

Reason: Each of the other versions contain at least 1 instance of the phrase 'love of God' in them, hence they were not pruned.

This is what Mark Eddy was trying to say earlier, I think.

What you appear to want is pruning to take place for each verse, showing only those versions which have 'love of God' in the current verse. But this isn't how the search and prune feature works.

Hi Philip:
Let me see if I have this straight. To quote you:

just ran your trial search with search and prune on. I get the following verse list: Psa. 52:1, 8; Luke 11:42; John 5:42; Rom. 5:5; 8:35, 39; 1 Cor. 15:34; 2 Cor. 13:12, 14; 2 Thess. 3:5; 2 Tim. 3:4; Titus 3:4; 1 John 2:5; 3:16-17; 4:9; 5:3; Jude 1:1, 21

All of the versions listed show a hit at least in one of these verses. Is that what you are saying?

Hi, Howard,

You're understanding me. I checked through all the verses and at least one of all the English versions that display contained the string 'love of God'
