View Full Version : Narrate WTT Chapter

In BW9, the right click menu on a Hebrew word gives the option to "Narrate WTT Chapter." I assumed that this was a way to play a sound file that would say the Hebrew text. But when I select it, my media player opens and tells me it cannot find the file. I have all the "sound files" on the install disk already installed.

Any help?

Based on the link (you can see what it's calling up in the Edit External Links menu under Resources), I think it might be a self-made link that accidentally made it into the BW9 program. It looks as though Michael Bushell has audio files for the WTT and so it's set to play those. Since I assume this is a personal link, the files probably aren't able to be packaged within BibleWorks 9.

In other words, I think your program works fine, but I don't think that link is supposed to be there. As you said, the alternative is that BW9 is missing files for it, but I don't think that's the case because the inclusion of all the audio files of Hebrew Bible was never an advertised feature, and I would think that's something worth bragging about.

Well, if I do a rightclick with my computer mouse, I also have the "Narrate WTT Chapter" in the menu.

Same error message after opening windows media player ...

What a pity! Would be a great feature.

I had never noticed this option. This item is defined in the external links menu. The audio files are not included with bibleworks 9 but the entire audio of the Hebrew OT (divided into chapters) can be downloaded from this site: http://www.aoal.org/Hebrew/AudioBible/

I had downloaded the entire audio bible from this site a while ago. And I am now writing a program to convert the names to a structure that is compatible with the bible works link. I tested with a few chapters and it works great!

Since these audio files are in the public domain, I am wondering if Bibleworks might be able to include them in future releases???

I now have the file names converted to a format compatible with the Bibleworks links, and have tested the narration and it works!!!

I can provide the C source code to those who which to do this conversion, or possibly a ZIP of the audio files; however, the latter is over 700 MB so it may be too big to email for most people.

That would be wonderful! I'm trying to recover my limited skills in Hebrew and that would be useful. I don't know what to do with the C source code so would need some direction to use it or would need the audio files. That is a big file, but would be worth the download!

I don't have a site to put the file on at the moment, but if you have a place to upload it I will send it to you.

Sounds great.
Well I know the service https://www.filemail.com/ for sending large files without any registration.
I'd be interested in the files, too.

I wasn't familiar with filemail.com but it certainly looks like that would work. If you are comfortable sending it through there please send it to me. My address is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thank you

Edit: It appears that you can send to multible recepients through that service, so you might want to give others an opportunity to post their address as well and send it to all of us at the same time.

I am looking for a site on which I can place the file and then leave it there. If I cannot find a site, I will try this email site but would like to wait until I have a collection of addresses in which to send it. The file is quite large so I really only want to send it once.

Note: you can send me the email addresses using the message feature of this board if you do not want to publish them in this thread.

I understand your wish for one-time-upload, not several mailings.

http://www.gigasize.com/premium could be an idea for storage for 30 days for free anyhow.

https://www.dropbox.com/pricing allows 2 GB, storage time not limited. I use such an account for other purposes. Sounds sympathic. After uploading once, everyone you enable/invite can download the files.

We're in the process of seeing if we can host the files on the unofficial BibleWorks blog. I believe one drawback of Dropbox is that there is a cap on the file size, 300 MB if I remember right. So the file would have to be split up into multiple files if you did that.

Anyway, be patient and hopefully we get something worked out soon.

I have provided the files to the BibleWorks blog. Now we just have to wait for them to be able to publish them.

I just received an update from the owner of the (unofficial) bibleworks blog where these files are being hosted. He is trying to find the best way to divide the download because of its massive size. He is still working to get this online.

Thanks for the update. I was hoping this was still being worked on as I am very much looking forward to making use of it.

Hello all,

Mike Tidsell has put up a guest-blog post on the 'unofficial' BibleWorks Blog:

Audio Files to Narrate the OT in Hebrew http://bibleworks.oldinthenew.org/?p=1102 (http://bibleworks.oldinthenew.org/?p=1102)

The blog post details two ways of incorporating the audio files into BibleWorks using the External Links Manager. One way installs the files on your computer, the other allows you to just call on the mp3 that's hosted on the BW blog.

Enjoy!

Thanks Jim! I have them all downloaded except for Judges and Song of Solomon. When I click on those two books I get a error 404 file not found. I have tried with both the zipped and the unzipped files.

To get Judges and Song of Solomon, I find the original link in the post and manually downloaded these two books. I had to change the file name to a single number to reflect the chapter.

Also the book of Malachi is missing from the master list. But if you go to the original link, you can download it as well.

The link is, http://www.aoal.org/Hebrew/AudioBible/

Good call on those files.
The Judges and Song of Solomon files are up and running now. (The file names were wrong.)

The Malachi files are up there too (I just failed to put them on the list).

I don't have a site to put the file on at the moment, but if you have a place to upload it I will send it to you.

I can give you a place to upload. I own the domain brainout.net. I can create a password and a folder just for you, and then you can use FTP to upload, and change the password so that no one but you can use that folder. I have unlimited space. It only costs me about $7 per month via Yahoo webhosting, and so there is no charge. There are no ads. And you don't support anything I say, just because you upload there. I also do this for other people who disagree with my 'read' on Bible, so don't worry. Just email me if you want this feature, or reply here and PM me your email address, so I can add you. Also, decide on what subdomain name you want to use, and I'll create a subdomain like yourname.brainout.net . Then you have total independent freedom. The subdomain will point at your folder, making your life easier. You can even get a separate email address there, if you want it.

Or, of course, you can use Yahoo webhosting, yourself. Your decision.

Dear Friends,
everything works fine besides the Song of Salomo (Shir HaShirim). BibleWorks doesn't find the Audio files. A friend of mine has the same problem.
Can you help us ?

Dear Jim,
thank you for assisting us ! When I open Sol 1:1 and rightclick in the Browse Window to Narrate the WTT Chapter nothing happens. All other OT books open the Media Player and run the Audio files. I've checked the folder and the Mp3-Files. They open by clicking on them but not within BibleWorks. The Folder is named "Sol", which should be right.
Do you have a clue ?
Yours in Christ

Hello Peter,

I am from Germany, too, and I tested my installation after you wrote this problem down in the forum. Mine is not working, too. But the problem here was: The BW abbreviation is "Sol" (don't know why), the folder is named "Son" (C:\Program Files\BibleWorks 9\HebrewAudioBible\Son). I renamed the folder to "Sol", then it worked for me. Perhaps it is helpful for you to check also the BW abbreviation in your installation and the path of the Audio files?

Greetings to all from Munich,

Karlheinz

The BW abbreviation is "Sol" (don't know why), the folder is named "Son" (C:\Program Files\BibleWorks 9\HebrewAudioBible\Son). Thanks Karl, for speaking up on this!

I just checked the files on the server, and indeed the folder inside the Sol.zip file was named Son instead of Sol. The file for Judges was in the same boat. I've changed the folder within the Jdg.zip file so it is now named Jdg rather than Jud.

So, for anyone to do a local installation, be sure to check all folders once you've unzipped them to make sure that they have the correct BW book names as the folder names (Jdg, not Jud; Sol, not Son). Otherwise the links won't work. If you happen to run into any other incorrectly named folders within those zip files, let me know so I can change them on the server.

Perhaps this is stating the obvious, but you can also set up a "Narrate BYZ/WHT/BNT Link." Just set up a file folder in BW called "GreekAudioBible," download Greek audio files (such as those found here (http://www.helding.net/greeklatinaudio/greek/)) into sub-folders named by book, and use the External Link Manager to add the Narrate Greek Link (as shown at http://bibleworks.oldinthenew.org/?p=1102, making appropriate changes for Greek).

Dear Friends,
thank you ! I renamed the Song of Salomo File and it works now.
Lee, could you provide a screenshot of your External Link Manager for the Greek Audio files ? I don't now, how to configure it. That would be helpful.
Thank you so far....

The entirety of the "Parameters" reads: "C:\Program Files (x86)\BibleWorks 9\GreekAudioBible\<Book>\<Chapter>.mp3"

I actually obtained my Greek audio files from CDs I have, but those are not public domain or allowed free distribution.

Hope this helps.

all right, thank you ! I made some errors but it works now.

Glad to hear it, Peter!

You're much quicker than I am--I've only added the Gospel accounts, as changing the names of every file is a pretty time-consuming process.
