Paragraph sign betwenn verse and words

For some unknown reason I have in some verses a paragraph symbol between the verse number and the words. It is not in all verses, but if it is present it appears in all versions.
Like this:

John 7:45 ¶ +Hlqon

What does this mean? How can I get rid of it?

There is an option to turn them off in the option menu.
