BibleWorks is a program, like many others, that can be maintained by means of updates downloaded over the Internet. After one has installed the program to a computer from the CD media, additional changes and improvements are accomplished via the BibleWorks Updater. This is accessed by clicking HELP on the menubar, choosing BIBLEWORKS ON THE INTERNET and then choose CHECK FOR UPDATES from the sub-menu.
When the Updater window opens, it automatically connects to the BibleWorks server via an Internet connection to check for files that are not already installed. After performing the check, a list of available updates will display in the listbox part of the dialog box titled INSTALL UPDATES.
Of the updates that display, some will appear in bold type, while others do not. The meaning of the bold type entries is that they are considered very important to the maintenance of the program, and to select and download them is highly recommended.
Those that display in regular type are considered less critical. Often they will contain corrections to the existing databases that make up BibleWorks, but BibleWorks will not "break" if they are bypassed. Even the boldface entries have the aspect of being optional, for one can leave them unchecked as well. In the case of the BibleWorks executable files, however, omission of them may result in missing out on very useful improvements to the program.
