View Full Version : Printing maps in BW7

Whenever I attempt to print a map from within BW7, only the overlays print; the underlying topography doesn't print at all. I can only get maps to print by exporting them to another program (Word, Photoshop), but the bitmaps are in a low enough resolution that they aren't very clear.
I assume this is a bug. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Have you tried the selection to (Edit)copy them in vector format? I have been using them for teaching presentations and then select Paste Special in Powerpoint and use Enhanced MetaFile. They look very nice on the screen but I haven't tried to print them.

I've tried copying vectors into MS Word, Photoshop 6, and Adobe Illustrator, but to no avail (nothing appears on the screen). I can copy bitmaps to all of those applications, but they are in screen resolution (72 dpi), which looks good on the computer, but poor on a printout.
For the time being I'm manipulating bitmaps in Photoshop to make them print correctly. What I would really like is to print directly from BW7, since there appears to be a menu option for that. Whenever I use it, however, only the text and line overlays print (with a nice border!), but the underlying topographic image doesn't print.
Thanks for your response. If you have any ideas, I'm all ears.

I have a similar, but not identical, problem to Bob with the printing of maps. If I print direct from BW7, the labels appear in white rectangles, greatly obscuring the underlying map. If I "copy as vector" and paste into a program like Publisher 2003, the same problem with the labels in white rectangles appears. If I copy as bitmap, the label problem is solved.

Although I haven't had the block problem when printing paper copies, I have had the blocks appear under the labels when I print to a pdf file from Adobe Acrobat. It appears to be a problem where the color mask used to change the text color (or shadow outline color) doesn't remain hidden when being converted to a print document.
Should we be submitting these as bugs?
