I noticed the George M. Lamsa Translation in a bible book store. This translation is new to me. Did any of you ever perused this translation? Any thoughts on it?

Lamsa's translation is based on the Syriac version of Scripture, known as the Peshitta. Syriac is language related to Aramaic. In the New Testament the text is helpful for text criticism as well as for discerning how a particular text may be rendered in Aramaic. For the Old Testament in particular it is useful for text criticism. An article on the Peshitta in the first edition of ISBE is available here (http://www.bible-researcher.com/syriac-isbe.html).
