I have heard of beta testers, but the latest updates are for gamma testers. Please explain what a gamma tester is and why these are available to all customers.

Thanks,

John Fidel

A gamma tester is a beta tester who has been held back :)
A few beta testers who had continuing concerns and/or interests in ongoing/experimental developments were invited to be gamma testers. The programmers are preparing for a number of new databases (already advertized for future release in 7.0) and sometimes they have to test changes in the program ahead of release of the new databases, to make sure that the program can handle the changes.

The gamma test execs shouldn't be "available to all customers." Perhaps there was a mixup in the way the updates were posted.

The gamma tester version was posted by mistake. As Mark said this is a version of the program used to test things that are not ready for release or new features/fixes that are too risky to release publicly without extensive testing. The current gamma version supports version names of any length but that was a major code change and too risky for release without extensive bug hunts.
