Knowing that installing a new version that is still having some kinks worked out can be touchy, I'm a bit nervous about installing 7 which arrived in the mail today(!!). Is there any problem with just leaving 6 in place while installing 7, and then removing 6 once I've gotten my confidence up with 7?

No need to worry about uninstalling version 6. Version 7 installs in a different directory, and if I remember correctly, version 7 will uninstall version 6 for you. I did not uninstall version 6 before installing version 7.

Your right to be concerned about installing seven over six. If you remember from past experience that 6 is afraid of seven because seven eight nine!!:D

Gentlemen, maybe I am missing something in this discussion, but if the issue is installing 7 if you have a previous version of BibleWorks on your computer, then there are instructions on the card with your serial number for version 7 on it. "It is best to uninstall any version of BibleWorks using the Add/Remove Program applet found in the Windows Control Panel."
Hope this helps.

Okay, I'll be more explicit. I've seen a number of posts describing problems and frustrations; installation glitches and continuing crashes with 7. My question is, even though the card says "uninstall 6 before installing 7," is it possible to have both 6 and 7 installed simultaneously, so that if I run into hangups with 7, I can just resort to 6 until things with 7 get worked out?

Or is my concern about 7 installation unfounded? (Naturally there are not as many http://www.bibleworks.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif threads as there are http://www.bibleworks.com/forums/images/icons/icon4.gif troubleshooting threads.)

BTW, Latemarch: To the box for 2 minutes!

I was talking with several people last night in my Theology Program class (shameless plug: http://www.thetheologyprogram.com) and mentioned that although there were a lot of problems in the beginning, the bug reports in the forums has dropped off considerably, and if someone wanted to upgrade, now was a great time to do so. Fear not!

I think your concern is unfounded. BW7 is very stable. If I remember correctly, one of the beta testers did install BW7 without uninstalling BW6 first, because he had to use BW6 while teaching classes, so that none of the students would know that BW7 was near. He didn't report any problems doing this (that I remember). Possible problems could come if the two programs share the same files (e.g. fonts).
If your only reason for not uninstalling BW6 is fear, then just go ahead and uninstall it, and get used to using BW7. As long as you get the current updates using the web updater, you should have nothing to worry about.

I was privileged to be a beta tester and did not uninstall 6 before installing the beta.

However, I uninstalled both [though could not find either in the control panel applet] before installing BW7 proper.

But, this resulted in me losing the unlock codes for modules I had previously purchased.

It is best if you uninstall using the "add or remove programs" section of the Control Panel. I don't know why you wouldn't have seen BibleWorks 6 in the list of uninstallable programs there. If you use this add/remove function of Windows it leaves all your BW user-altered files in the BW6 directory, which would include your unlock codes (in the "init" file). If you "unistall" BW by deleting the BibleWorks 6 folder in My Computer, then you lose everything. That is not the suggested way of uninstalling, until you are absolutely sure that you have transferred everything you want to keep into BW7.
Sorry it didn't work out for you.
