The New Testament Greek Transcription Coding Scheme
BibleWorks contains a number of new transcriptions of Greek New Testament manuscripts. These transcriptions have been produced as a part of the BibleWorks Manuscripts Project. BibleWorks 9 contains the first installment from the project.
These transcriptions are useful for studying the characteristics of particular manuscripts and for teaching the art of textual criticism to students. They should be used in conjunction with the CNTTS Apparatus which contains an extensive textual apparatus for the entire New Testament. It is located on the Verse Tab.
The transcriptions are compiled and fully searchable just like any other Bible version. The plans are to tag these transcriptions morphologically but in the initial release only Sinaiticus is tagged.
Each manuscript is accompanied by a set of images which have the verse locations tagged. If you have the manuscript tab active, the manuscript window will update as you change verses in the Browse Window. The Mss Tab is divided into four sections as discussed below.
The Mss Tab Control Bar
The control bar contains a set of controls that allow you to interact with
the manuscript evidence.
·

This text box displays the current verse. You can change the verse by entering a new one and pressing the <return> key. You can also advance the verse using the scroll buttons in the next item.
·

This series of scroll buttons moves the current verse backwards and forwards.
The first one updates both the collation pane and the image pane. The second
scroll button updates only the collation pane. The third scroll button updates
only the image pane.

This drop down menu allows you to select the current manuscript that will be displayed in the image window.
This pane displays a collation of all of the installed manuscript transcriptions. By default Westcott-Hort (wh), Scrivener (sc), Robinson-Pierpont (rp) and NA27 (na) are also included. You can modify the number of manuscripts collated by selecting Collation Options in the Mss Tab Control Bar.
The right click menu for the Collation Pane has several options for copying text to the clipboard or for displaying the collation in a separate popup window. The clipboard option has limited value currently. It formats the text in the form of wrapping HTML tables and no current word processors can handle the format. The popup viewer does handle the wrapping tables properly. You can display the text statically or dynamically. If you choose the dynamic option and leave the window open, it will be updated as you change the display verse in the Browse Window.
This pane displays a bitmap image of the current transcription. The image will be aligned so that the current verse is displayed with its line left aligned at the top of the display area. The location of each verse is marked with a label. The current verse will have a red tab. If you move the mouse over the tab of any verse label, the labels will all be blanked (so you can see what is under the labels). Moving the mouse off the label restores the verse label. The right click menu for this window has the following options:
