The Pericope Wordlist

The pericope wordlist contains a list of all the words in the current Bible outline section. The pericope content is determined by the Bible outline file. The Bible outline file is displayed at the top of the Browse Window. Switching Bible outline files or modifying the current Bible outline file will change the contents in the pericope wordlist. Because extra-Biblical books do not have Bible outline files, the pericope wordlist window does not display contents for extra-Biblical versions. By default the pericope wordlist displays the words in the pericope verses by frequency of occurrence.

For morphologically-tagged versions, the word is listed as the lemma followed by the parsing codes for that word. You can click on any one of the words in the pericope wordlist to search on that word. The search will automatically be limited to that pericope. At the top of the pericope wordlist title bar is the contents of the pericope, the name of the search version, the number of verses in the pericope, and the number of words in the pericope.

The pericope wordlist window context menu is opened by right clicking on any word in the list. It contains the following options:

Copy List to Clipboard - This option copies the pericope wordlist to the clipboard.

Copy List to Editor - This option opens a new BibleWorks editor window, then copies the pericope wordlist to the new editor window.

Sort List Alphabetically/by Frequency - this option sorts the pericope wordlist alphabetically or by frequency, depending on the current sort order of the list. The menu entry will indicate the state to which the sort order will be changed.

Export List to Word List Manager - This option opens the Word List Manager (WLM) and sends the pericope wordlist to the WLM.

Context/Word Tab Options - Opens up a window that permits you to set various context tab configuration options. See below for details.

The Book Context Wordlist

The book context wordlist contains a list of all the words in the current Biblical book. By default the book context wordlist displays the words in the book by frequency of occurrence. For morphologically-tagged versions, each word is listed as the lemma followed by the parsing codes for that word. You can click on any one of the words in the book context wordlist to search on that word. The search will automatically be limited to that book. At the top of the book context wordlist title bar is the name of the Biblical book, the name of the search version, the number of verses in the book, and the number of words in the book.

The book context wordlist window context menu contains the following options:

The chapter context wordlist contains a list of all the words in the current chapter. By default the chapter context wordlist displays the words in the chapter by frequency of occurrence. For morphologically-tagged versions, each word is listed as the lemma followed by the parsing codes for that word. You can click on any one of the words in the chapter context wordlist to search on that word. The search will automatically be limited to that chapter. Context/Word Tab Configuration Options (for Morphological versions only)

Clicking on the "Context/Word Tab Options" selection in a Context Tab word list context menu, opens up a window that permits you to set various context tab configuration options. The two check boxes at the bottom of the window are used to set these options:

Keep Morphology Codes - If this option is checked, the word list will include morphology codes if it is from a morphology version. Otherwise only lemmas will be shown. This setting affects all Context Tab word lists, plus the Words Tab current search results and command line word list expansion lists.

Popup expanded Morphological Codes - Selecting this option turns on the display of the popup morphological codes. The codes will appear in expanded form, rather than in code form. This option only works for morphologically-tagged versions.

The remaining check boxes contain a list of the most important parts of speech used in the various morphological databases. Unchecking one of the parts of speech will cause matching words in the context word lists to be removed. You could for example just limit the lists to nouns and verbs. The part of speech settings also affect the Words Tab current search results word list.

Uses for the Context Wordlists

The pericope, book, and chapter context wordlists provide a way to quickly see the most frequently-occurring words in the contexts of the book, chapter, and pericope. Noticing the repeating words helps you to identify likely themes at the book, chapter, and pericope level. This information is important for determining the message of the book, chapter, and pericope.

Clicking on a word in any of the wordlists searches on the word. The search will be limited to the pericope, book, or chapter, depending upon which wordlist is searched. By using the Context tab it is easy to both see repeated words and to find each occurrence of the repeated words within the context.
