31 Analysis Window: Mss Image Processing Options
The Mss Image Processing Options window allows you to set a variety of image processing options to be applied to the Mss Tab manuscript image. These can be very useful in bringing out details and making the images more readable.
The settings are divided into two sections. The settings for each section can be toggled on and off separately. You can also toggle all image processing options on and off.
The most common and most useful filters are the unsharp mask and sharpening filter. To try the sharpening filter click on the "Sharpening Filter" check box and adjust the "Intensity" tab. To try the unsharp mask click on the "Unsharp Mask" check box and adjust the threshold, intensity, and sigma values. Start with intensity and sigma maximized.
Unfortunately a discussion of image processing procedures is beyond the scope of this manual. It is assumed that the user has some familiarity with the technicalities of the art of image processing.
However, the original images in BibleWorks are never modified so you cannot do any harm by playing with these settings.

It might be useful to give a few examples of what can be done with the image processing options. Compare each of the following examples with the original image:

Color Settings
RGB Settings
The first section contains seven slider controls that allow you to modify Red, Green, Blue, Gamma, Saturation, Brightness and Contrast settings. .
Auto-adjust Contrast
If this option is checked the image contrast will be adjusted automatically to optimize image quality. The optimization is adjusted based on the visible portion of the manuscript, not the entire image. The setting affects how the contrast slider works. It has no effect unless the contrast slider id moved from the center position.
Auto-optimize levels
If this option is checked, image colors will be optimized automatically. The optimization is adjusted based on the visible portion of the manuscript, not the entire image.
Grayscale
If this option is checked the image will be converted to grayscale.
Reverse Image
If this option is checked the image will be reversed.
Histogram Stretch Brightness
This option performs a brightness histogram stretch on the image. The lower threshold adjusts the percentage of pixels set to zero (black). The upper threshold adjusts the percentage of pixels set to 255 (white).
Histogram Stretch Saturation
This option performs a saturation histogram stretch on the image. The lower threshold adjusts the percentage of pixels set to zero (black). The upper threshold adjusts the percentage of pixels set to 255 (white).
Enable All Color Settings
This option turns all Color Settings on and off. Filter settings are unaffected.
Image Filter Settings
Unsharp Mask
This option performs an unsharp mask on the image. The slider controls allow you to set the sigma, intensity and threshold values for the mask.
Sharpening Filter
This option applies a sharpening filter to the image. The slider control allows you to adjust the intensity of the filter.
Laplacian Blend
This option applies a Laplacian blend to the image. This is most often used in conjunction with a smoothing filter like the median filter.
High Pass Blend
This option applies a high pass blend to the image.
Despeckle
This option applies a despeckle filter to the image.
Interpolate Zooms
If this option is checked a polynomial interpolation routine will be used to interpolate pixels when the image is zoomed to greater than 100% of the original size.
Enable All Image Filter Settings
This check box can be used to turn all filter settings on and off.
Enable All Settings
This option can be used to turn all settings (both color and filter) on and off.
Miscellaneous Settings
Auto-Align manuscript column
If this option is set, when a verse is scrolled into view the left side of the image will be positioned on the column in which the verse starts rather than where the verse starts.
Update only when shift pressed
If this option is checked the image display will be refreshed with mouse movement only if the SHIFT key is depressed.
